Jennifer Callaghan (Director, Callaghan Physiotherapy) is a current examiner for the Australian Physiotherapy Council. She marks the practical exams across neurological, cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal streams. She has also taught undergraduate physiotherapists at multiple Australian universities. As such, she has the industry knowledge and practical experience to help you work towards physiotherapy registration in Australia.
How tutoring and mentoring can help you:
- Help you develop the knowledge, assessment and treatment skills that are expected of newly registered physiotherapists with Australia.
This may include
- Identify similiarities and differences in your physiotherapy training, compared to the expected standard of the Australian Physiotherapy Council. This can be across multiple areas - such as scope of practice, communication, professional behaviour, as well as clinical assessment and management skills.
- the Australian Health Care landscape - public and private hospitals, private clinics, aged care and other employment locations for physiotherapists
- Referral pathways within Australia that may influence your patient management
- the primary contact practitioner role of physiotherapists in Australia
If you are newly registered in Australia, we can also assist you with discussions on your plans around potential employment, resume development, interview processes and negotiation of employment.

How and when are sessions delivered?
We deliver clinical mentoring and tutoring:
- Individually
- Small groups (2-5 people)
- Face to face (within greater Melbourne area; or interstate for full day sessions)
- Online via zoom.
Although practical skills are certainly best reviewed in person, many components of clinical mentoring can be effectively performed online. Telehealth is now a permanent feature of Australian physiotherapy practice, and physiotherapists need to develop competencies in delivering physiotherapy assessment and treatments in a digital format. We can help you improve your confidence in this area.
