Our clinical mentoring sessions are designed for individual physiotherapists (or small groups of physiotherapists) who are seeking to improve their aspects of their professional practice.
These sessions will give physiotherapists the knowledge, understanding, insight and practical strategies to improve their professional and personal performance in the workplace, and progress their career in whatever area they choose.
Physiotherapy learning is ongoing after graduation. It is not uncommon after a few years of practice to recognise that there may be aspects of practise that need upskilling, or indecision about which path of physiotherapy in which to progress. Individual and small group mentoring and coaching provides an individualised, tailored way of addressing these needs without necessarily committing to formal, post graduate study. Furthermore, as these sessions are specific to your needs, learnings from weekend and professional development courses may be better retained and integrated into your practice.
These sessions can cover whatever aspect of your practice you’d like to address. If you’re not sure specifically what that is, that is quite ok – we can discuss some cases / aspects of practice that help work this out. Some main areas that physiotherapists seek mentoring and coaching include:
Communication:
Development of rapport and a therapeutic relationship with patients – especially with a complex history of persistent symptoms
Knowledge & Clinical Reasoning
- Identification of areas where improved knowledge and understanding is required
- Comprehensive understanding of the biopsychosocial framework
- Using clinical reasoning throughout the assessment to develop a diagnosis, differentials, problem lists, and implementation of a treatment plan
Career & Workplace
- Discussions around career progression and considerations
- Strategies and considerations for working as a physiotherapist whilst pregnant, and returning to work after pregnancy.
- Workplace statistics - patient visit average, failed to attend, cancellation and rebooking rates.
- Confidential discussions around issues in place of employment, and how to manage and negotiate in this space.
