We deliver tutoring and mentoring to undergraduate students, to help you develop the real world skills to work as a physiotherapist.
Who are 'student tutoring' sessions for?
These services are catered for physiotherapy students who are studying physiotherapy for the first time - either through bachelor degrees, graduate entry masters courses, or doctorate courses. Although these are all different pathways, essentially you are studying physiotherapy content for the first time.
How are student sessions run?
We offer
1. Individual sessions - zoom or face to face
2. Small group sessions - zoom or face to face
3. Swotvac Prac sessions (Melbourne): a 3 hour session devoted to practising techniques, vivas and skills to assist you in your end of semester assessments. Ratio 1 tutor : 4 students
How often should I have tutoring?
Frequency of sessions ranges from weekly, fortnightly, monthly or one off sessions as required. It really depends on your needs. If you want to upskill on specific content / skill development, weekly to fortnightly is ideal. Or you may want 2-3 sessions close to assignment and exam preparation dates. We can cater for all your needs.
We are also available for an extended, larger group sessions in the weeks prior to assessment tasks or swotvac.
Sessions are structured around your individual needs and goals. We can help you upskill in:
- Knowledge - anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pain sciences, pharmacology, kinetics and kinematics.
- ‘The soft skills’ – communication, rapport development, building and maintenance of a therapeutic relationship with patients; as well as relationships with other staff and referrers
- Conducting a patient assessment
- Patient Interview & history skills
- Comprehensive understanding of the biopsychosocial framework
- Structuring a physical examination
- Clinical Reasoning in diagnosis, development of problem lists, and implementation of a treatment plan
- Refining your practical skills
- manual assessment and palpation
- clinical tests in a physical examination
- clinical exercise prescription
- manual handling skills
- Assessment tasks
- understanding the requirements of the assessments
- interpreting a rubric / marking criteria
- planning assignments, theory exams and preparing for practical exams.
